Why Does My Moroccan Rug Smell?

If you have a rug from Morocco, chances are that it is one of the beautiful unique pieces that are often seen in bohemian or global decor styles. These rugs can make your home feel welcoming and cozy but they also need special care to keep their beauty and quality for years to come.

A LOT OF THE PROBLEMS THAT HAS PLUGGED THE NAME “MOROCCAN RUG” TO THE FOREFATHERS OF THE FACTORIES AND WEAVERS THAT MAKE THEM HAVE TO DO WITH MOTHS, SHEED, ODOR, DYE BLEEDING, and COLOR RUN.

Why Does My Moroccan Rug Smell?

Shedding is a common problem with wool rugs, especially in the newer ones Morrocan Rug. However, you can prevent this by regularly vacuuming the back of your rug as well as dusting it with a soft bristle brush from time to time.

The odours are usually caused by the chemicals that are used in the bleaching process to get the wool softer or in the dyeing process of the dyes. The odours can be very strong and smell very bad.

These odours can be very difficult to remove and sometimes, they can cause allergic reactions as well.

It is a good idea to check the quality of the wool by using a thumbnail to scratch the fibers and seeing if they easily pull apart (a sign that the wool is very old or not very high-quality). Use a damp handkerchief to see if the dye quality is okay.

These odours are usually from the chemical bleaching of the rugs to make them look and feel softer or in the dyeing process of a heavy concentration of chemicals and sometimes toxic substances. If the odour is very strong, it is best to hang it outside on a clothesline and let it dry thoroughly so that it can absorb any lingering odors.
